Privacy Policy
DonateBloodCMR ("DonateBloodCMR", "we", "us") operates the website at donatebloodcmr.com and the DonateBloodCMR mobile application (together, the "Platform"). This Privacy Policy explains what personal data we collect, why we collect it, how we use and protect it, who we share it with, and the rights you have. We are committed to handling your data lawfully, fairly and transparently in accordance with applicable Cameroonian law, including the framework for the protection of personal data and the laws governing cybersecurity and electronic communications.
1. Who we are
DonateBloodCMR is a platform that connects voluntary blood donors, people who need blood ("seekers"), and hospitals across Cameroon, to help them find compatible blood and coordinate safe donations. For any privacy question, contact us at donatebloodcmr@gmail.com.
2. The data we collect
- Account & profile data: name, phone number, email address, password (stored only in encrypted/hashed form), role (donor, seeker or hospital), and language preference.
- Health-related data you provide: blood type, date of birth (used to calculate your age), donation history, and availability. This is sensitive data and we treat it with extra care.
- Verification data: documents and images you submit to verify your identity, age, blood group and donation eligibility (for example an ID document and a selfie). These are used solely to verify your account.
- Location data: the town/city and, if you choose to share it, approximate location used to match you with nearby donors, seekers or hospitals.
- Communications: messages you exchange with other users through the in-app chat, and reports or disputes you submit.
- Technical data: device and usage information, log data and similar identifiers needed to operate, secure and improve the Platform.
3. How we use your data
- To create and manage your account and verify your identity and eligibility.
- To match donors, seekers and hospitals, and to enable requests, chat and coordination of donations.
- To send you verification codes, notifications and important service messages.
- To keep the Platform safe — preventing fraud, abuse and misuse, and handling reports and disputes.
- To comply with our legal obligations and to operate, maintain and improve the Platform.
We rely on your consent (which you may withdraw), the performance of our service to you, our legitimate interest in running a safe platform, and compliance with the law, as the bases for processing your data.
4. How we share your data
We do not sell your personal data. We share data only as needed:
- With other users, to make matching work: limited profile information (such as first name, blood type and general location) is shown to relevant donors, seekers or hospitals. Your full contact details are not published; people connect through the in-app flow.
- With service providers who host and operate the Platform on our behalf (for example cloud hosting, database and messaging/email providers), under contracts that require them to protect your data.
- With authorities where required by law, court order, or to protect the rights, safety and security of users, the public or DonateBloodCMR.
5. International transfers
Some of our service providers may store or process data on servers located outside Cameroon. Where this happens, we take reasonable steps to ensure your data remains protected to a standard consistent with this policy and applicable law.
6. Data retention
We keep your personal data only for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes and enforce our agreements. When you delete your account, we delete or anonymise your personal data, except where we must retain certain records by law.
7. Security
We use technical and organisational measures to protect your data, including encryption of passwords, secure connections (HTTPS), access controls and verification codes. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and to respond promptly to any incident.
8. Your rights
Subject to applicable law, you may: access the personal data we hold about you; correct inaccurate data; request deletion of your account and data; object to or restrict certain processing; and withdraw consent at any time. You can manage much of this from your account settings, or contact us at donatebloodcmr@gmail.com. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the competent Cameroonian data-protection authority.
9. Children
The Platform is intended for people aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it.
10. Medical disclaimer
DonateBloodCMR is a connection and coordination platform, not a hospital, blood bank, or medical provider. We do not provide medical advice and we do not test, screen, store or transfuse blood. All blood donations and transfusions must be carried out and screened by qualified medical professionals at a registered facility.
11. Cookies and local storage
We use only the storage strictly necessary to keep you signed in and remember your preferences (such as your language). We do not use this storage to track you across other websites.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the updated version here with a new "last updated" date, and where appropriate notify you in the app.
13. Governing law & contact
